Scaffolding Safety Precautions

Precautions to be taken before removing the scaffolding of a concrete structure and not before erecting the scaffolding.

Make sure that the concrete has set and gained sufficient strength.

The scaffolding is removed in such a manner that the loads cause stresses in the concrete member and increase gradually.

In the case of a cantilever beam the removal of the scaffolding is started from the free end and the support removed in small amounts at a time and work towards the fixed end.

In the case of a vertical column or wall, the removal of the scaffolding is started at the top and worked downwards.

In the case of a beam or a one-way slab, the removal of the scaffolding is started in the middle and worked towards the ends, removing in equal increments on both sides of the center.

In the case of a two-way slab, the removal of the scaffolding is started in the center of the slab and worked towards the edges on all the four sides, removing in equal increments on all four sides of the center.
