What is Confined Space?

A confined space is a place that is substantially enclosed (though not always entirely), and where serious injury can occur from hazardous substances or conditions within the space or nearby (e.g. lack of oxygen, poor entry or exit, sudden change of temperature, etc. ).

Examples of confined spaces

silos, vats, hoppers, utility vaults, tanks, water supply towers, sewers, pipes, access shafts, truck or rail tank cars, manholes, pump stations, manure pits and storage bins.
